Justice Should Not Depend on Who Can Afford It

Survivors often face their most dangerous moment when they try to leave.
Legal protection can mean the difference between safety and continued abuse.

The IgniteHer Justice Fund helps remove financial barriers so women can pursue restraining orders, custody protection, and legal safety.

Why a Justice Fund Is Needed

Domestic abuse does not only impact safety. It destroys financial stability and limits access to justice.

The economic reality survivors face

• Intimate partner violence creates a lifetime economic burden of nearly $3.6 trillion in the United States.

• Survivors lose 8 million days of paid work each year, equal to 32,000 full-time jobs, due to abuse and its consequences.

• Many victims face more than $1,000 in immediate out-of-pocket costs per incident, including property damage, relocation, childcare, and legal fees.

• A typical divorce involving attorneys costs between $11,000 and $14,000, and complex custody or financial disputes can cost far more.

For survivors already facing financial control or economic abuse, these costs can make pursuing justice impossible.

Too often, women settle legal disputes not because the outcome is fair, but because the fight becomes financially unsustainable.

What the IgniteHer Justice Fund Supports

The IgniteHer Justice Fund helps survivors access critical legal resources during high-risk transitions.

Support may include assistance with:

• Attorney consultations
• Legal retainers
• Court filing fees
• Injunctions for protection
• Custody and support filings
• Business-dissolution documentation
• Legal paperwork related to separation from abusive partners

These financial barriers often appear at the exact moment survivors are trying to regain safety and independence.

The Justice Fund helps remove those barriers.

Who IgniteHer Serves

IgniteHer supports women navigating legal challenges connected to:

• Domestic violence
• Coercive control
• Financial abuse
• High-conflict divorce
• Custody disputes involving abuse
• Dissolution of abusive business partnerships

The organization focuses on survivors in Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties while building partnerships with regional victim-service providers and legal aid organizations.

Why Community Support Matters

Access to legal protection should not depend on personal wealth.

When survivors have financial support and advocacy behind them, they are more likely to:

• obtain protective orders
• pursue custody protections for children
• challenge financial manipulation
• safely exit abusive relationships

The IgniteHer Justice Fund exists to ensure survivors do not have to face these decisions alone.
